Can I go on consecutive programs in different locations?

Yes. You can go to as many programs consecutively as you want; some of our volunteers have gone through this experience and they say is amazing. Learn more about other available volunteering programs.

 

Can I volunteer as a group with friends, colleagues, or relatives?

Yes, you can go in a group however notification should be given to CLICAF early enough to enable our staff make adequate provisions for you. Depending on the size of your group, there are special discounts available. We are able to offer these discounts because groups help our staff more efficiently facilitate volunteer placement and management. Please contact us to discuss your options .

 

Do I need any specific skills to volunteer abroad?

No. Our placements are designed to accommodate all levels of skills and experience.

 

Do I need to be a citizen of one particular country to be a CLICAF volunteer?

No. We welcome volunteers from all over the world to participate in CLICAF volunteer programs.

 

Do I need to speak Ghanaian local language to volunteer?

No, our volunteer programs do not require that you speak the local language. However, a basic knowledge of English is necessary to follow the instructions provided by the local staff.

 

Does CLICAF offer health insurance while I'm volunteering abroad?

No. Since CLICAF already has financial burden, we cannot afford to pay medical bills for our volunteers. We therefore advice you obtain international travel health insurance before traveling to Ghana. However we shall be available to assist you in times of need.

 

How do CLICAF determines my volunteer work?

We are committed to community volunteer programs. Our community- based projects take us straight to the heart of the rural poor areas who are in dying need of our volunteer programs or volunteer work.

How far in advance do I need to enroll on CLICAF volunteer program?

We encourage you to enroll at least 1-week before the start date of the volunteer program in which you plan to participate. We do not accept enrollments with less advance notice however consideration is given if there is space available and enough time to take care of the necessary arrangements.

What's included with my program fee?

The program fee includes Airport-pickup,.Registration ,Orientation, Administrative expenses ,Project development and management, Host family, volunteer placement, lodging, meals, motivation of professional locally-based staff. Learn more about what your program fee covers.

 

What is CLICAF age policy?

The minimum age requirement for volunteers to participate independently on CLICAF volunteer program is 16 years old. For teens 14-15 who wish to travel independently, CLICAF offers special Teen Volunteer program abroad that will leave a memory of a life time with them.
The minimum age for a child traveling with a parent or guardian is 5 years old. If a volunteer is between the ages of 5 and 15, the accompanied guardian must be a parent, a legal guardian, or a person appointed by that parent or guardian. Learn more on who can volunteer .

 

What types of volunteer program are available?

Our volunteer program abroad includes volunteer teaching work, healthcare volunteer work, Ghana orphanage volunteer and other community programs. While all of our placements are individually determined based on each volunteer's skills and interests,Learn more on our volunteer programs abroad.

 

Why do I need to pay to volunteer?

Will there be time to travel when I'm volunteering abroad?

Yes. Free time is available some afternoons, but mostly in the evenings, and every weekend. During your weekend you can take excursions to other parts of the country, or you may choose not to travel, and stay in town to get to know the community better. You may also choose to travel before or after the program depending on your time scheduled with regards to your volunteer work at the site.

 

Do I Need To take Some Immunization before coming to Ghana?

Yes, depending on where you are coming from some immunizations are a pre-requisite for visa acquisition. Contact the Ghanaian High Commission or consult in your home country for more information.

 

Where will I stay while volunteering?

Depending on our volunteer programs, participating volunteers may either live in volunteer work camps or host families. Host families are well screened and trained based on CLICAF's volunteer policies of safety, security, love, care, high sense of humour etc. Our host family volunteer placement is highly recommended since it provides volunteers the opportunity to learn our culture and have a true feel of our Ghanaian way of family life.

 

What food will I eat while in Ghana?

There is comprehensive orientation for your host families as to the kind of foods to provide for you. Though food provided will include local dishes with natural vegetables and fruits, yet very nutrious for your enjoyment.

 

Why Ghana and how safe is it

Ghana is currently ranked the most peaceful country in Africa. This puts us in a very favorable position where our valued volunteer is assured of safety from terrorist attack, rape, hijacking and robbery .Generally Ghanaians are very peaceful and what we are very proud of is our hospitality. Ghanaians welcome foreigners warmly and associates with them without any form of discrimination or racism. Greetings are very essential component of the Ghanaian culture where 'Akwaba' or Woezor [welcome] is predominant everywhere you go.

 

What if i stay longer and my visa Expires

Visa extensions can be done with our local emigration office here in Ghana. CLICAF volunteer team will assist you extend your expired visa.

 

How Much Does It Cost To live in Ghana

Cost of living is low and meaningful as compared to most countries in Africa. Though the Ghana cedi has a lower value as compared to most countries in Africa and beyond, this does not reflect in the cost of living and rate of inflation. Inflation rates currently is 9% in Ghana.

 

What money should I take with me?

The most common foreign currencies that can be changed in Ghana are the US dollar, euro and the British pound sterling. Barclays banks and other Banks accept all these three currencies. .

 

Can I take money from the ATM?

Yes. Once you have visa electron card you can access your money from the ATM 24 hours a day.

 

Can I change money on arrival?

Yes. Forex bureaus are available at Accra where your flight will be landing and changing of money can be done at Accra. However if the currency is one of those we quoted above, then it may not be necessary to change at the forex bureau since it can be done at Ho where you will be based for your volunteer work.

 

Where can I e-mail or make phone calls

Most of the communities where our volunteer projects are initiated have mobile network receptions and hence receiving of phone calls and browsing the internet is not a problem at all. You can connect direct modem to your laptops for your internet services. However this is relatively expensive and hence we advice our volunteers to access their mails at internet cafes.

Can I raise fund to support my volunteer program in Ghana?

Absolutely! It is a welcome news for us since we are non profit charity organization with no funding from any organization. Our financial strength is derived solely from our own internal contributions and part of international volunteers' participation fees paid to us. This makes it very difficult for us to carry out our administrative duties and to fund our projects as well. You can contact the Executive Director to discuss this nice initiative and the kind gesture. You can also educate others to send their kind donation to CLICAF .
